The Institute is governed by Trustees as a Council. Council’s role is to act in the interests of the charity first and foremost. The Council will provide strategic oversight for the CEO and Executive team.

Job Description: Network & Communities Manager
PURPOSE OF ROLE
The Network & Communities Manager is responsible for developing IIRSM’s community ecosystem, ensuring members can connect, learn, share knowledge and build meaningful professional relationships through our volunteer networks, branches, events and digital communities.
Working closely with volunteer leaders, members, partners and internal teams, the role creates engaging opportunities that strengthen member value, support retention and recruitment, and position IIRSM as the professional home for risk and safety practitioners internationally.
The role will directly support the following strategic priorities:
Community Engagement: Develop thriving branches, networks and sector communities that increase member participation, satisfaction and retention.
Membership Growth: Support retention activity by creating compelling community experiences and pathways for engagement.
Learning: Facilitate opportunities for members to knowledge share, learn from peers, share expertise and contribute to the profession.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
Community Strategy & Development
· Lead the development and delivery of IIRSM’s community, branch and sector engagement strategy, ensuring alignment with organisational objectives and strategic priorities.
· Build strong and productive relationships with volunteer leaders, committee members and key stakeholders across all communities.
· Identify opportunities to increase participation amongst existing members and attract new audiences into IIRSM communities.
· Develop inclusive and welcoming community experiences that support members at every stage of their professional journey.
Volunteer Leadership & Support
· Recruit, onboard and support volunteer leaders across branches, committees and sector groups.
· Ensure volunteers operate in line with Institute policies, governance requirements and community standards.
· Develop recognition initiatives that celebrate volunteer contributions and encourage long-term engagement.
Events, Learning & Engagement
· Lead the planning and delivery of branch events and networking activities.
· Ensure engagement activities deliver meaningful professional development opportunities and member value.
· Represent IIRSM at events, exhibitions and external stakeholder meetings as required. .
· Identify opportunities to improve member participation and progression through targeted engagement activity.
Insight, Reporting & Continuous Improvement
· Monitor and report on community performance using agreed engagement, participation and retention measures.
· Gather feedback and insight to inform future products, services and community initiatives.
· Utilise CRM and membership data to identify trends, opportunities and areas for improvement.

EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE
· Working knowledge of a professional body and/or relevant sector.
· Understanding of working practices within a global organisation and awareness of cultural differences.
· Experience of working with volunteers and managing external relationships.
· Practical experience using membership databases, ideally including Microsoft Dynamics (Office Dynamics) and related IT systems.
· Proven experience delivering high‑quality customer service within a team environment.
