The Institute of Regulation is a membership organisation. We’re a professional network, providing professional development in regulation and promoting good practice in regulation. Two thirds of UK regulators are members, including high-profile organisations such as the Civil Aviation Authority, Ofsted, Ofgem, Information Commissioners Office, National Audit Office and Care Quality Commission.

We offer a wide range of peer support opportunities – from events, professional development and special interest groups, alongside contributing to the national conversation on regulation and regulatory practice. We host the UK’s biggest annual conference on regulation and the UK’s only regulation podcast, and we are regularly invited to advise government and parliament on regulatory matters.

We’re seeking Maternity cover for our Membership Officer role to ensure the smooth running of the IOR membership services to all our Members (Regulators, Affiliates and Individuals).

Role purpose 
The Membership Officer is responsible for supporting an excellent member experience in the thriving membership communities and for helping the Institute to grow its membership base.

Key responsibilities
Membership activities – ensure effective coordination of member services. 
-Responsible for day-to-day activities of member recruitment and retention under the direction of the COO
-Support a programme of member activities (eg Quarterly Member forum) and special interest group meetings
-Support effective member networking through the coordination of our Member Special Interest Groups (SIGS)

Stakeholder engagement – enhance the reputation of the Institute. 
-Act as first point of call for all membership and SIG queries
-Coordinate scheduled member check ins, and onboarding of new members
-Engage with potential new members as necessary
-Co-ordinate the Institute’s communications across email, regulation hub, web and socials
-Support the running of the Annual conference as part of the IOR executive team (March 2027)

Operations – ensure the effective running of the IoR’s Membership operations. 
-Prepare membership updates and social stats for board meetings
-Manage and update CRM (Customer Relationship Management) system, and coordinate membership invoices
-Act as main administrator for the IoR Jobs board and website
-Contribute to general administration and operational support using SharePoint and other systems.

The person 
Essential criteria 

A. Experience:
-Minimum of 2 years’ experience working in a membership support role
-Experience of using CRMs in a membership environment
-Experience of using a wide range of communication channels and tools
-Membership Finance administration experience
-Member network coordination experience

B. Skills: 
-Highly organised and efficient administratively
-High level of IT and Digital platform skills
-Excellent written and oral communication skills.
-Able to communicate complex information in a clear and meaningful way.
-Webinar/ Event coordination skills.

C. Behaviours: 
-Motivated, with an ability to work independently, in a remote setting
-Demonstrated diligence, with an attention to detail
-Customer centric and approachable

Desirable criteria 
D. Experience:
-Income generation.
-Experience &/or empathy with regulators and their contribution to economy and society.

E. Behaviours: 
-Creative approach to problem solving.
