My client, a leading sports membership charity based in Guildford is currently recruiting for Head of Membership to manage a membership, fundraising team and drive member growth and strategy.

 

The Role of Head of Membership

 

This role will lead on our membership strategy focusing on increasing the levels of financial support from new and existing members whilst also increasing member engagement with our wider organisational objectives. They will be responsible for all aspects of membership including proposition development, marketing and supporter journeys.  The role will also develop our individual giving strategy incorporating appeals, raffles and legacy giving. The role will be an integral part of the income generation team with plenty of opportunity to get involved in many aspects of the charity’s work, particularly our communications, engagement and digital teams. They will have strong networks within the membership sector and apply an insight-led approach to all aspects of their work.

 

Specific Duties:

 

Develop new membership strategy: new tailored membership offers and journeys; new marketing plan; business modelling; digital aspects; operations which ultimately result in significant growth in both income and member numbers.

Line management of the Membership Operations Manager and Fundraising Manager posts and strategic oversight of the membership and fundraising functions.

Lead on (through supporting Membership Operations Manager) the operations and systems needed to support our membership programme, in particular the embedding of our new CRM and the optimisation of this system for membership.

Work closely with the Head of Commercial to develop the commercial products as part of membership.

Lead on development and implementation of the individual giving including individual donations, appeals, raffles, membership fee top ups, giving platforms and legacies.

Take an insight-led approach to all work and projects and build strong networks across the membership/fundraising industry and attend networking events to build new relationships and learn from best practice.

Actively contribute, generate ideas, participate in and give feedback on the wider work of the Income Generation team and other UK colleagues where relevant.

Follow and monitor procedures to ensure compliance with data protection codes, fundraising codes, financial data protection, accurate information provision and all other areas of compliance.

To follow and abide by policies and procedures as detailed in the Staff Manual at all times including Health and Safety, Equal Opportunities and Confidentiality.

To be an ambassador at all times.

Some weekend and out of hours work may be necessary.

 

Person Specification

 

Essential

 

Experience of leading large membership programs and teams

Experience of implementing membership transformation programs

Strong understanding and demonstrated experience of managing data led marketing for membership

Experience of creating compelling propositions for product development,

Strong experience of people management

Good knowledge of data protection, GDPR regulations and The Code of Funding Practice

Excellent ability to network and build strong new relationships with partners

Strong written and oral communication and ability to inspire through presentations

Strong organisational ability and able to prioritise work using own initiative

Highly collaborative approach

Financially literate and able to develop long term financial models

High levels of computer literacy to include MS Office, databases

Ability to innovate and generate creative solutions to practical challenges

 

Desirable

 

Educated to degree level or equivalent

Membership/fundraising related qualification

Experience of leading fundraising programs
