The Head of Membership is a key role in supporting FDF’s members, with a focus on engagement, communication, retention, and recruitment. The FDF has seen exceptional growth over the last few years and with ambitious growth targets, this role will develop and lead the Membership team’s recruitment and retention strategies, ensuring the membership journey is aligned as we work to foster a better business environment that enables the industry to prosper and thrive.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide strategic input, analysis, and recommendations on membership across FDF.
  • Develop member content and resources, understanding what members want and need, advising teams on member audiences and personas and how members consume information.
  • Oversee the end-to-end annual membership renewal process for all categories of membership. Working with the CFO on forecasting and modelling. And work with finance to track member income, identifying and delivering process improvements.
  • Conduct member listening and reporting, both informally and formally to inform and improve engagement plans and grow satisfaction.
  • Lead on member centric strategy, developing and implementing across the Membership team and among FDF colleagues, ensuring members remain at the core of all our activities.
  • Continued development and implementation of the SME engagement plan and associated activity, developing services as required.
  • Work across multi content channels and platforms (e.g. CRM, website) to improve and enhance end-to-end member journey and experience, deepening engagement and showcasing member value.
  • Champion, motivate and lead the continuous professional development of Membership colleagues to cultivate a high-performing team.
  • Build strong relationships with members and key stakeholders, representing FDF across the organisation, up to and including at Board level.

Skills, knowledge, and experience

  • Extensive end to end membership experience in a trade association or similar organisation, with a track record in membership retention and recruitment with £5m + income generation.
  • Knowledge of the food and drink industry is desirable but not essential, but candidates should have a desire to work at the heart of the industry.
  • Strong leadership skills, with a track record of motivating and developing teams to get the best out of them.
  • A strategic thinker, with strong analytical skills and demonstrable experience of strategic business planning, implementation, and delivery.
  • Relationship management and a confident networker with good negotiation and influencing skills.
  • A strong communicator, both verbal and written with the ability to simplify and tailor information.
  • Data management driven with experience managing data and interpreting results.
  • Digitally knowledgeable with experience of CRM systems, email marketing platforms and CMS.
  • Commercially astute with experience of delivering a revenue strategy and effective budget management.
