About the role
The Senior Networks and Engagement Manager – Societies, will be responsible for providing strategic oversight and guidance to CIBSE Societies ensuring there is a focus on membership growth, member engagement and provision of appropriate technical content. They will ensure that our operational processes to support Societies are efficient and simple ensuring ease of use for our volunteers as well as staff.
Reporting to the Head of Networks and Engagement, this role has one direct report in the Networks and Engagement Coordinator, Societies. The role is part of a small and hard-working team focusing on supporting our volunteers across the networks to deliver member growth, retention and engagement.
The role requires an individual with a passion for working with volunteers coupled with strong experience of volunteer management. They will also demonstrate a high level of line management skills, attention to detail, customer service focus and an ability to solve complex problems.
You will be joining a friendly membership team (24 team members) who support each other to achieve CIBSE’s goals.
What you will do
- Work with the Director of Membership and Head of Networks and Engagement to create and implement growth strategies and plans for each of the existing CIBSE Societies.
- Undertake a review of the current operational processes used to deliver Society activity in partnership with the Networks and Engagement Coordinator – Societies. The outcome of the review should enable you to implement positive change to operations ensuring a more efficient process for all.
- Attend all Society committee meetings, events and represent CIBSE and the Society where relevant .
- Form excellent relationships with key volunteers and using your volunteer management experience resolve any challenges or issues where necessary.
- Take a lead in providing direction and guidance to Society Chairs and committees.
- Provide excellent and effective line management and development direction to the Networks and Engagement Coordinator – Societies.
- Provide support to the Networks and Engagement Coordinator – Societies with operational aspects and day to day queries.
- Provide support to the Head of Networks and Engagement with development of the volunteer infrastructure.
- Lead on the development of new CIBSE Societies in collaboration with the Director of Membership and the Head of Networks and Engagement.
- Lead on the Society activity planning and budgeting process.
- Work with Finance to ensure we can provide quarterly income and expenditure updates to Societies and work with Societies to use this information to review their plans.
- Work with the Networks and Engagement team to produce quarterly statistics reports regarding Society membership, member engagement and provide analytical commentary.
- Work with the Membership Marketing team over campaigns such as Volunteers week and ensuring the promotion of volunteering is a regular feature in communications.

Essential
- Extensive experience of line management.
- A background in volunteer management.
- Strong organisation skills.
- Excellent customer service skills and awareness.
- A mixture of operational and strategic experience.
- Experience of working with budgets
- Strong interpersonal skills.
Desirable
- Educated to degree level
- Experience/an understanding of committee structures/governance.

This is a hybrid working role with 2 days working from home, and 3 days in the office in Farringdon.
