Our HR team exists to make BSR (British Society of Rheumatology) the best place to work that it can possibly be. This role has dual responsibility for HR and Facilities, and you’ll have two roles reporting directly to you, our HR Assistant and the Front of House and Facilities Coordinator. Both the HR and Facilities teams are part of the Operations Directorate, and we work as one team to ensure we support all colleagues across the organisation effectively. The balance of the role between HR and Facilities is around 70/30.

Main Responsibilities

HR

  • Lead the HR team to deliver our People and Culture strategy, providing a high quality and effective service to our colleagues
  • Continue to build our Employee Value Proposition and position BSR as an employer of choice
  • Further develop our world-class wellbeing offer
  • Support and develop the Managers Network and Peer Support Networks
  • Lead and support other teams to achieve our equity, diversity, and inclusion strategy
  • Act as the lead HR point of advice and guidance for the organisation
  • Update and deliver our internal leadership and core skills training programme to facilitate a
  • high performing organisation alongside the Director of People and Resources
  • Team leadership, collaborative working, and supplier relationships

Lead, coach and support your team to develop their skills and knowledge

  • Manage overall team capacity and resource planning, manage co-dependencies to meet organisational priorities
  • Develop effective working relationships with colleagues, external contractors, and volunteers

Facilities

  • Work with our external building management company to
    1. oversee the tenant arrangements (we lease out 2 floors of our building)
    2. ensure the rolling maintenance programme is carried out on schedule
      lead on Fire Safety for the building
    3. manage all external contracts with suppliers and ensure all contractors working on site comply with BSR’s policies
    4. lead on security systems, ensuring the building BSR staff, visitors and tenants are safe and that the building is secure at all times.
  • Provide advice on the Charity’s insurance portfolio, regularly reviewing requirements and negotiating best value for insurance premiums.
  • Be the lead for all health and safety matters
  • Be the named Data Protection Officer

Be a proactive member of the Heads of Department peer group – a high performing team

  • Work closely with other Heads of department to build a high-performing team and embed a ‘one team’ culture across the organisation
  • Collaboratively plan, implement, and measure effective annual activities that form our
  • Operational Plan and deliver against the strategic goals
  • Champion BSR values at every opportunity

Person Specification

  1. Ability to deliver a forward thinking and effective People and Culture strategy
  2. Experience of implementing organisational development and design initiatives
  3. Experience of driving a performance culture through a one-team approach and developing high
  4. performing leaders, employees, and teams at all levels of an organisation
  5. Experience in leading, motivating and developing a team
  6. Ability to effectively deliver equity, diversity, and inclusion programmes
  7. Experience of creating and managing budgets
  8. Relevant knowledge of employment law and HR best practice
  9. Ability to act as the lead for organisational health and safety and Data Protection Officer
  10. Ability to create and manage effective stakeholder and contractor relationships
  11. Strong personal leadership qualities and personal credibility to inspire trust and confidence in the HR and Facilities function and wider organisation

First round interviews will be a panel interview, and the second round for those taken forward will include an opportunity to meet the team members this role will manage.
