The Membership Engagement Manager is a new post responsible for managing the implementation of the College’s UK membership engagement and retention strategies. S/he will be an experienced and dynamic communicator who will lead and manage a small externally focused team, represent the College at events, and promoting the full range of membership benefits and services. S/he will possess excellent relationship management skills and will work closely with the College’s UK member networks to ensure they have the necessary resources to support the strategy for membership growth and retention. Working effectively across all College Units, the Membership Engagement Manager will ensure a co-ordinated approach with all relevant stakeholders in delivering against agreed targets for growth and retention.
Main Responsibilities and Role
The post deals specifically with:
Line management of a small membership engagement team with specific focus on physicians, surgeons and dentists in the UK
Planning and managing a calendar of internal and external educational events and conferences with the aim of promoting College and recruiting new members
Co-ordination of staff and other resources to support the promotional opportunities at internal and external events
Recruitment, retention and ongoing management of the UK Regional Advisor, College Tutor and Buddy Scheme networks (‘the UK member networks’)
Planning and delivery of induction/events/training for the UK member networks
Engaging across all College Units to ensure co-ordinated advice and support, and effective communication with the UK member networks
Monitoring and reporting of externally focused activity and its effectiveness, identifying opportunities and threats
Planning and delivery of relevant aspects of the Membership and Global Engagement operational plan, including budget management
Plan and work within budget ensuring compliance with all financial procedures.
Any other tasks as directed by the Deputy Head of Membership
Planning and Organising
Highly effective communication, planning and organisation are at the heart of the role. An understanding and application of various communication, engagement and planning tools is essential. The ability to plan and work as a team member is essential allied to the confidence to work with senior personnel.
Decision-making within the role is essential. The post holder will work independently and as an integral member of a wider management team and will be expected to take decisions within broad direction. S/he will also have budget responsibility within agreed limits.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience Needed
Educated to degree level or equivalent experience
Ability to motivate and inspire high performance
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Exceptional customer service skills
Proven track record of effective relationship management
Relevant experience in business development and/or marketing planning and delivery; targets focused with the determination to deliver
Experience of the use of digital communications in a business environment
Excellent IT/database skills with proficiency in MS Office
Experienced in the use and implementation of business improvement, planning, organisational and engagement tools and techniques e.g. Prince 2, Six Sigma, LEAN
Strong interpersonal skills in order to interact with a range of internal and external stakeholders
Proven record of working in a multi-disciplinary organisation and the ability to coordinate different groups and activities
Understanding of the NHS/healthcare sector both in the UK and worldwide (desirable)
